How to Get from Incheon Airport to Seoul
The four ways into Seoul from Incheon Airport — the AREX train, the airport bus, a taxi, and which to pick — with rough fares, times, and what to do before you leave the terminal.
Incheon Airport (ICN) is about 50 km west of central Seoul — near enough that it’s an easy trip, far enough that the choice matters. Once you’re through immigration and past the baggage carousels, there are four ways in: the AREX train, an airport bus, a taxi, or a pre-booked car. Most visitors take the train or a bus.
All the transport is one level down from arrivals, in the Transportation Center (basement level, B1) of each terminal, or just outside the doors on the arrivals floor. Fares and times below are rough and move around — check current figures when you go.
The AREX train

The Airport Railroad (AREX) runs from a station under each terminal. There are two services on the same line:
All-Stop (일반, ilban) — the regular commuter train.
- ICN Terminal 1 → Seoul Station in about 59 minutes (about 66 from Terminal 2).
- Fare to Seoul Station is roughly ₩4,150–4,750, tapped with a T-money card (a single-journey card costs a little more plus a refundable deposit).
- Runs from about 05:20 to just before midnight.
- Stops that matter for transfers: Gimpo Airport (Lines 5, 9), Digital Media City (Line 6, Gyeongui–Jungang), Hongik Univ. (Line 2), Gongdeok (Lines 5, 6), Seoul Station (Lines 1, 4, KTX).
If your accommodation is near any of those, or near a stop one transfer away, this is the cheapest and most predictable option.
Express (직통, jiktong) — non-stop to Seoul Station.

- ICN Terminal 1 → Seoul Station in about 43 minutes, non-stop.
- Fare around ₩11,000 (cheaper with an online booking or a foreigner rail pass).
- Reserved seats, luggage racks; departs roughly every 40–90 minutes.
- Only worth the extra over the all-stop if you’re headed to the Seoul Station area and want a guaranteed seat.
The airport bus

Buses leave from stops just outside the 1st-floor arrivals doors and run directly to hotel clusters — Myeongdong, Jongno, Gangnam, Jamsil, Hongdae, Itaewon, and dozens more — which makes them the easy choice if you’re not near a train stop or you have heavy bags.
- Fare is roughly ₩10,000–18,000 depending on route and whether it’s a standard bus or a deluxe 리무진 (limousine) coach.
- Journey time is about 65–90 minutes, traffic-dependent.
- Buy a ticket at the outdoor booths on the arrivals floor (they’ll point you to the right stop number), or pay on board by card or T-money.
- Routes are numbered (6001, 6015, 6002…). Check the route map for the one nearest your accommodation before you commit.
Taxi
- About ₩70,000–95,000 to central Seoul in a standard (orange or silver) taxi; a black 모범 taxi is 30–40% more.
- Add an expressway toll (~₩8,000) and, late at night, a surcharge of about 20%.
- Roughly 60–75 minutes outside rush hour.
- Use the official taxi ranks outside the 1F arrivals doors, or the Kakao T app. Ignore anyone inside the terminal offering a “private taxi” — those are unregulated and cost more.
- For a group of three or four with luggage, splitting a taxi is reasonable, especially late at night when trains have stopped.
Which one should you take?
- Near Seoul Station, or on the AREX line, travelling light → all-stop AREX.
- Heading to a specific hotel district with big suitcases → airport bus.
- Landing after midnight, or a group of 3–4 with lots of luggage → taxi.
- Want a reserved seat straight to Seoul Station → AREX Express.
Before you leave the terminal
- Buy a T-money card at any airport convenience store (GS25, CU, 7-Eleven in the arrivals area) and load some cash onto it — it works on every train, bus and most taxis, and you’ll want it from minute one.
- ATMs are on the arrivals floor if you need won.
- If you pre-ordered a SIM, eSIM or pocket Wi-Fi, the pickup desks are in the arrivals hall — do it before you head down to the trains.
Terminal 1 or Terminal 2?
Terminal 2 serves Korean Air, Delta, Air France, KLM and a few other SkyTeam partners. Terminal 1 serves everyone else. Each has its own AREX station and its own bus stops, so follow the signs for your terminal. If you end up at the wrong one, a free shuttle bus connects T1 and T2 in about 15–18 minutes, or the AREX does it in one stop.
If you land at Gimpo instead
Some flights from Japan, China and Taiwan — and all domestic flights — use Gimpo Airport (GMP), which is much closer, about 17 km out. From there it’s the AREX or Subway Line 5 or 9, roughly 30 minutes to central Seoul, or a ₩25,000–35,000 taxi.
The short version
- Four ways in: AREX train, airport bus, taxi, pre-booked car.
